The AAU Media Awards are typically the Motion Picture & Television and Multimedia Communication department's version of the Spring Show. However, this year they've opened up more categories and invited other departments to submit their film work. Two of the films that I've had the pleasure to be a part of were nominated. Not only nominated but they ended up winning their respective categories! Congratulations to Alyce Tzue, for Soar, on winning Best Animated Short Film, and Ilgi Candar, for Crows, on winning Achievement in Visual Effects!
Congratulations to all the other nominees and award winners who were a part of this award show!
During the evening, Elisa Stephens awards Lisa Cholodenko an honorary doctorate for her career and achievements as a writer and director. I didn't really know who she was at first but when I heard she was responsible for The Kids are All Right I was immediately "yes, I like you". She gave a fantastic speech, not about fortitude and tenacity, but rather about vulnerability. It is the little voice that we each have inside ourselves that makes us doubt what gives each and everyone of us that not only gives emotion to our work but what pushes us forward each time to overcome it and become better.
